Farmers Market Faves
& Raves 2009
Having participated in four weekly farmers markets this year, we've had
the chance to meet and sample the wares of numerous other farmers
market vendors, and these are our hands-down favorites. Great
people, great products. We're proud to be
associated with
them and to recommend them.
Nichols Farm
&
Orchard
Top-notch
quality and unbelievable variety. Twenty different kinds of
tomatoes. Varieties of apples you've never even heard of.
Purple cauliflowers. Farm-fresh haricots
verts. Incredible.
And
speaking of farmers markets, Edgewater
Soaps was featured
as a
"Farmer's Market Find" in Time
Out
Chicago magazine.
We're
a member of the Handcrafted Soaps Makers Guild (HSMG), and very
proud to
say that we are a certified by the HSMG as a cold process/hot process
soap
maker.

About
the Local Shopping
Movement. Local
First Chicago. Yes,
there
is such a movement! Who knew? But it makes a lot of
sense. Save gas. Stimulate the local
economy. And here's why
you might want to. Local businesses do more for the
communities in which they are located than national chain stores.
- They
do more of their purchasing locally.
- They
contribute more to local non-profits.
- They
add to the character and diversity of their communities.
- They
are owned by people who live in the community.

The
website's local business directory is growing by the day. When I signed
up for a free listing a couple months ago, there were just two pages of
Edgewater businesses. Now there are six! I think this
is a
terrific resource.
